HYPOCRITE ... the republicans are ok with stem cell research as long as we are not creating life first then destroying it ... umbilical stem cells can be used without creating an embryo (person) and then destroying it ... and many scientists are finding afterbirth stem cells to be viable where the evil kind are not ... why create and take a life when we already have the stem cells produced from birth? How selfish to not only kill an unborn child but then to want to harvest its cells ofr yourself ... I would rather stay a cripple then to have a baby killed and harvested so I can walk! > This is not a religion. It is a buch of people with agendas hijacking religion > and manipulating people. It is wrong. Very wrong. And I cannot understans > how/why the religions allowed this to happen to them. yes it is ... "thou shall not kill" ... God created life and only God has the right to take it ... when you kill or promote killing, you are playing god ... and the job of the church is to expose sin, not keep quiet because it makes you feel uncomfortable ... > It means that intelligent people who can think for themselves will forever > reject such religions which will be relegated to brainwashing lemmmings with > their radical political agendas instead of promoting good values. promoting life is not a good value??????????????????? > Sorry, but killing over 100,000 humans is a far greater crime against humanity > than using cells in a test tube for research. ABSTINENCE should be the primary thing taught but is not ... what about "thou shall not commint adultry" and "fornificators" will not enter the kingdom of heaven? God made sex for marriage and sex outside of marriage is sin ... we used to teach these values until 1962 when the supreme court took away those values and the public school system and society since then has become the depraved slime pit we have now ... > You have to face the fact that sex has become a physical activity. It isn't some > special magical act performed by 2 married people anymore for the sole sake of > making a baby anymore. you got it ... that is why the divorce rate is so high and that kids are screwed up because of family breakups ... sex is show love, but it has become a physical only, self gratifying act ... > This is the same blindness that believes that teaching "abstinence" will solve > the aids crisis in Africa (and reduce incidence in the USA). it is the safest way ... but why do we not want to teach it along with birth control? Just because you may not be able to control yourself until marriage does not mean someone else cannot ... you want to look at porn, go ahead, but do not shove it down my throat and my childrens throat on television and the internet. We need pronography laws to be enforced ... and what about the way women dress today ... they are practically walking around nude ... this did not happen until again the sixties when we took Gods laws which all law is based on out of the schools and we got the sexual revolution and aids and abortion and teen pregnancy and lust and divorce and adultry and broken families and sexual predators raping and killing our children and rape ... so much for the sexual revolution ... > Humans are mammal animals. Before the 60s we never had the sexual problems you have today ... it is not genetics pushing kids to sex at younger ages, but pornography and divorce and drugs the breakdown of the family thru divorce ... this is the result of the empty promises of the ME generation ... God created humans in his image ... we are not animals! > Unless you are willing to force all american teenagers to consume some pills > that kills their sex drive until they have a job, you need to face the fact that > many/most will want to have sex for fun (as opposed to procreation). And to > prevent procreation and diseases, you have to teach them about it. (Or fit all > women with chastity belts). you do not need pills ... We are now prancing women around the TV and internet and in public nude and semi nude to arouse and entice young men ... we are throwing sex in our kids face at younger and younger ages instead of letting them be kids! Our movies are promoting that there is something wrong with a teen who has not had sex by time they are out of high school! THAT IS THE PROBLEM! WE ARE SEDUCING CHILDREN INTO IT, CHILDREN WHO NOT READY FOR IT! This is the devil trying to destroy the family, because if the family can be destroyed, then society will follow ... > Again an example of religion being totally out of touch with reality. It is > harming society instead of helping it. I think the above shows why society is screwed up ... it is called sin JF, and things will continue to get worse and worse and society will become sicker and sicker until it either wakes up and turns back to God and His laws or it destroys itself ... sadly it looks like the latter is going to happen ... ------------------------------ Date: 30 Mar 2007 05:44:13 -0700 From: genius@marblecliff.com Subject: Re: 216 Trillion Lemmings Are Scientifically Literate (Part II) Message-ID: <1175258653.812189.20150@o5g2000hsb.googlegroups.com> On Mar 30, 7:55 am, "Neil Rieck" wrote: > > I saw a documentary on PBS about George W Bush and how he ran first ran for > the position of Governor Of Texas and then President of the United States. > There were plenty of video shots of him giving speaches inside of churches. > > I realize this is not the same as going to a church where someone tells you > how to vote, but it does seem to blur the lines a little. and the democrats do not do this??????????????????? they are experts at it ... they appear in every black church they can with their brainwashing, but if a republican does it, oh my! > (I should point out that America's founding fathers were terrified of giving > the unwashed masses access to the ballot. In reaction to a nasty process hang problem which involves OpenVMS V7.3-2, a "legacy" application (in other words, over 10 years old!) and IBM's Websphere MQ (messaging system) I am considering switching off VMS threads by setting the sysgen param MULTITHREAD to zero. I suspect the problem is due to MQ becoming multithreaded over the last few versions and the application - supplied by a third party - making heavy use of AST's. The process never comes out of HIB state. Restarting the process makes everything ok until the next time! I suspect it's a clash between the AST and pthreads as pthread calls figure heavily in the stack and SHO CALL in SDA. (Application images have to be explicitly linked to pthreads rtl to cure a previous hang and have upcalls enabled to prevent an ACCVIO!) Gerald, An interaction between ASTs and threading would not be the early on my list of possible issues. An image making heavy use of ASTs frequently appears to permanently be in a HIB state (although the CPU time, IO, etc. should be gradually increasing). If this does not happen, I often find that somewhere along the line the application is failing to schedule the next event. This can be tracked, although it is sometimes time consuming. While I would not expect eliminating threads at the Kernel level to have a positive effect. It might, by happenstance, change the frequency that the problem occurs, but that is moving the problem, not eliminating it. A note on my experience underlying the above: "Threads and Events", HP Enterprise Technology Symposium, 2002, http://www.rlgsc.com/hpets/2002/1228.html "Introduction to OpenVMS AST Programming", Compaq Enterprise Technology Symposium, 2000, http://www.rlgsc.com/cets/2000/435.html "Threads vs. Events", Fall 1996 US DECUS Symposium, http://www.rlgsc.com/decus/usf96/ad019.pdf "OpenVMS-ALPHA/VAX Asynchronous System Trap Internals", Fall 1996 US DECUS Symposium, http://www.rlgsc.com/decus/usf96/ad039.pdf "Introduction to AST Programming", Fall 1995 US DECUS Symposium, http://www.rlgsc.com/decus/usf95/ad029.pdf and several other presentations and seminars on the use of threads and events. The systems are two venerable AlpaServers, a 1000 (VMS1) and a 1000A (VMS2). The 1000 is the main node and is running OVMS 7.3-1. I've run cluster_config.com to turn VMS1 into the main cluster node which all seemed OK. I've then run cluster_config.com again to add VMS2 to the cluster as a satellite node with page and swap files local on the VMS2 disks. VMS1 then drops in to the 'Waiting for VMS2 to boot...' loop, so all good so far. Typing 'boot ewa0' on VMS2 then begins the MOP boot. This gets as far as: %VMScluster-I-MSCPCONN, Connected to a MSCP server for the system disk, node VMS1 %APB-I-FILENOTLOC, Unable to locate SYSBOOT.EXE and not surprisingly ends there. I think I must be doing something obviously wrong but much searching and a read of the OpenVMS Cluster System manual has so far turned up nothing. Any pointers would be gratefully received. -- Jonathan [take out the TRASH to reply by e-mail] ------------------------------ Date: 30 Mar 2007 08:45:49 -0700 From: "Sue" Subject: VMS Updated Information Message-ID: <1175269549.597896.307050@y80g2000hsf.googlegroups.com> -----Original Message----- From: Skonetski, Susan Sent: Friday, March 30, 2007 11:08 AM To: Skonetski, Susan Subject: Updated VMS Information Dear Distribution Lists, Enclosed please find the bi-weekly VMS update. A customer of mine recently supplied me with a VMS tape which I restored using MediaMerge. After a lot of headscratching I found the above program on the net to extract the files from the resulting .BCK file. I managed to compile it fine under Cygwin and when run with the - t flat it nicely lists the files it contains and their sizes. Howeever when running with the -x flag to extract the files it keeps returning a 'Invalid record format 33' error. It creates the files and the directory structures fine but all the files are of 0 size. I realise this program was written a long time ago and that the current version of BACKUP may not be compatible. Any advice though would be helpful. The tape was written with: OpenVMS AXP version V7.3 BACKUP version: AXP72R001 I have to admit I have never used a VMS system and we have no access to one so unfortunatly other options are limited. After a lot of headscratching I found the > above program on the net to extract the files from the resulting .BCK > file. The above program is very old, and was reverse engineered, not following any documented data description. Its usefullness is something I've never run into as I never found a single platform on which it would build. Probably the best thing to do in your case is to pay a consultant a few bucks to take the file and extract the data for you. Other alternatives are to get an account on one of HP's test drive systems or on a publically available system (deathrow, Eisner, ...), and figure out how to extra the data yourself. In the latter case you're going to have to deal with issues MediaMerge can do nothing about, any experienced VMS user will know how to deal with them for you. ------------------------------ End of INFO-VAX 2007.178 ************************
