84AUG14 From: Joe Bingham ManTech International 2320 Mill Road Alexandria, VA 22314 (703) 838 5600 To: Users/copiers of the VAX SIG Symposium Tape, Spring 1984 (Cincinnati) This is the largest VAX Symposium tape yet with a total of about 110,000 blocks not counting the [VAX000] and [VAX000.INDEX] directories. The tape was made BACKUP/INTERCHANGE command (see the VMS version 3.3 release notes if you are not familiar with /INTERCHANGE) so that tape to tape copying is possible. For disk to tape copying the COPYTREES command procedure is convenient. There are three save sets on the two tapes. The first tape contains VAX000 and VAX84A which load into [VAX000...] and [VAX84A...]. The second tape contains VAX84B which loads into [VAX84B...]. Loaded sizes are about 13500 for [VAX000...], 49796 for [VAX84A...] and 59607 for [VAX84B...] on a disk with a cluster factor of one. VAX84A contains all of the submissions except for the four largest which are in VAX84B. One submission ([.SPREAD], Glenn Everhart's electronic spreadsheet) was in VAX84B for the generation of the index but made VAX84B too large so it is back on VAX84A. The recommended method of loading the tape is the following: $ delete [vax000...]*.*;* !ignore warnings $ mount/foreign mta0: $ backup mta0:vax000 ddcu:[*...] !ddcu: is device to load to $ backup mta0:vax84A ddcu:[*...] $ dismount mta0: !and put on the second tape $ mount/foreign mta0: $ backup mta0:vax84B ddcu:[*...] 0README.1ST provides information on the files in [VAX000...]. Please copy this note (which is on [VAX000] as 84ABMEMO.TXT) and forward it with outgoing tapes. Joe Bingham
