A command specification may have one or more options in the
form of switches associated
with it. A switch is an indicator, consisting of a slash and a
two-character or more <ascii name, used to select program options.
The switch itself may have three forms. If the switch designator,
for example, is <sw, then:

	/NOSW#--##negates the switch action

In addition, the switch identifier may be followed by any
number of values.  The permitted values are <ascii strings, octal
numbers (base 8),
and decimal numbers (base 10). The default for a value is DECIMAL.
Decimal values may be terminated by a decimal point. Values
Preceded by a number sign (%#) are octal.
The octal option is included for explicit documentation purposes.
Any numeric value may be preceded with a + or a - sign;
if the number sign (%#) is used, the + or - must precede it.

Numerous switches control the
RUNOFF program. These switches, described below,
can be modifiers to either the input or output file specifications.
It is recommended that all switches be placed as modifiers to the ^&output\&
file specifier to avoid ambiguities of multiple specifications on more than one
input file specifier.

characters are translated based on an IBM selectric input keyboard and
a QUME scientific 12 print wheel as output. The translate table for the
DIABLO scientific wheel exists in the code but is not switch selectable.

The intermix of english text and greek is accomplished by running 1 pass
with /CS:1, rewinding the paper, changing the print wheel, and running the
2nd pass with /CS:2. The special character %% indicates font 2 text.

The Table of Contents contains the chapter titles of header levels
one and two. The Table of Contents for this manual is an example
of this feature. The title header levels three, four, and five
were not included as they would have progressively less of the line
for their titles.
To generate a Table of Contents, all that is required is to specify
a file for it in the RUNOFF command line.
