This directory contains the source code, executable image, special help file, Command Language Interpreter file, and initialization file for extended EDT. Extended EDT allows the user to spawn subprocesses from within the EDT Editor. This allows the user to read MAIL, use PHONE, check names of files, etc. without having to EXIT the editor. Extended EDT uses VMS version 4.x and EDT utility routines. The user spawns the subprocesses by using the EDT nokeypad command XLATE. In keypad mode the user can define a key to use XLATE. The EDT initialization file, ALEDTINI.EDT, has defined GOLD CONTROL D to be this key. To enable this editor, the user needs to edit EDT.CLD and ALEDTINI.EDT to use whatever device and directory needed, or define a system logical, EDT_LIBRARY, to point at the device and directory. Then use SET COMMAND to add the verb EDT to the DCL tables. This can be doen permanently by the system manager. ALEDTINI.EDT sets up many key definitions that may be usefull to any organization. These keys do such things as cheng buffers, copy buffers, EXIT, QUIT, insert a ruler, change word delimiters, change screen width, set TRUNCATE or NOTRUNCATE, and set HELP Library. EDTINIHLP.EDT is a "help" file that is set up to be used by ALEDTINI.EDT to be read in and set up a help buffer that explains the key definitions set up by ALEDTINI.EDT.
