Vevle X-Ray Crystallographic Core Facility University of Alabama at Birmingham SDB Box 13, 244 LHR University Station Birmingham, Alabama 35294 (205) 934 - 2212/2149 GRADE -- A program to maintain and calculate student grades. GRADE is a class grading program. It uses the terminal independent screen procedures and the VTxxx line drawing character set. Should be used on a VTxxx terminal. Allows dropping of grades, selectable by the instructor. Calculates average score needed for remaining scores to make A, B, and C. Calculates class overall average as well as class average for each score. Has various types of printouts including some suitable for posting and some suitable for distribution to the student. GRADE will also build a sequential, ASCII file for easy storage and will load from a sequential, ASCII file for easy recall of student information. NOTE When GRADE calculates class averages for each score, any scores of zero are not used. When GRADE calculates the overall class average, any student average of zero is not also Page 2 used. The reason for not including zeros in class averages is students do not make zeros on tests or assignments unless they do not take the test or do not turn in the assignments. The same is true for students with average scores of zero. If a student has an average score of zero, that student has most likely never attended class. The inclusion of zero scores in the class averages yields averages that are misleading. This program was developed under VMS V3.5, V3.6, and V3.7 and I imagine it will continue to work when V4.0 is released. If any bugs are found please contact Mark Vevle at the above address or phone number. Suggestions and/or criticizims are welcome and should also be directed to Mark Vevle. This program is under refinement and will be updated on a regular basis.
