.lm5.rm75.sp1 .c;Notes for the Command Procedure TOC .b.p0,1,5;TOC the TPU-RunOff Control procedure is intended to simplify the use of Digital Standard Runoff for the casual or occasional user. The procedure TOC also emulates some of the options of the Saturn Word Processing System on the PDP 11 computers operating under the RSX system. Runoff assumes that the user will edit the input file using any editor. Runoff then uses this file to generate a print and/or display file. If the edited input file has the extension .rno (or any other not beginning with .rn), the output file has the extension .mem. Within TOC suitable file deletions, purges, and renamings occur so that at most the latest version of the edited runoff__input file and of the runoff__output file are preserved. .p;The input files for Runoff may have a variety of file extensions; if these begin with .rn then Runoff by default generates a particular type of output file. For example, an input file extension of .rnh leads to the creation of an output file with extension .hlp. .p;To edit the file, TOC uses the EVE editor. The latter is automatically set to wrap around at the start of a word if the word crosses the right margin. During editing other than input of new lines of text, the wrap feature may not be active. It may be invoked by issuing the EVE command "FILL". .p;For the convenience of some users, the entry of one DCL command has been enabled. It is necessary to include the entire command on the one line provided if this option is elected. Roc will not check the command but DCL will, displaying any appropriate error messages. .p;It is always possible to leave TOC by typing an _^Y. It is also possible to repeat the last display by entering a question mark (?). Other than this it is hoped that the internal explanations are self explanatory. The system help files indicate a number of different qualifiers that can be used with Runoff. It is not possible to use any of these within TOC, except for /pages which is invoked if one chooses a restricted page range for Runoff. .p;It is possible to display the Runoff symbols, flags and qualifiers either from the main menu by entering R. For more details about the Runoff dot commands it is necessary to use the Runoff manual. If you would like to see any changes in these notes or in TOC, please see Dr.#E.#Ackerman.
