Cargo" Subject: MS-DOS JRD/5E problem reports To: info-kermit@CU20B.COLUMBIA.EDU Message-ID: <860319164432.548548@HI-MULTICS.ARPA> I have done some testing of the new MSVIBM (jrd/5e). I have found a couple of minor problems with it. First, I will say that it is an improvment over jrd/5b. Now the problems: I work on a Multics system, where tabs are defined every 10 columns, at columns 11, 21, 31, etc. The terminal emulation assumes tabs are every 8 columns. The vt100 and vt102 emulations now obey commands that set the tab stops. Nevertheless, if you have programmed the tab stops, and then close the connection, when you reconnect, the reprogrammed tab stops are lost, and the default settings are used again. The programmed stops should be retained after the close. The only other problem I noted (so far) is that when you "set term vt100" the status SCREEN says vt100, but the status LINE says vt102. Everything else I tried seems to work. Improvements I noticed: Insert character mode now works for both Heath-19 and VT102. I tried them both in Multics emacs, and they work just fine. (Before I had just used the redisplay and redisplay-line commands bound to convenient keys as a work-around. Now that is unnecessary.) PgUp and PgDn don't produce ugly snow on the screen any more. That was a nice improvement. I have a Hecrules Color Card on my NCR, and that combination seems to work fine with Kermit. Improvments I still want: As mentioned in prior messages, it would be highly desirable to be able to set the retry count. Now it isn't even possible to see what it is. I expect this would be a major monkey wrench since there isn't much room on the status screen any more. It is a problem for my site; we have had some difficulty in sending files over Tymnet. Shorter packets help, but more retries are also very important. David S. Cargo (Cargo@HI-Multics) user of Multics, VAX, MS-DOS, and CP/M-80 Kermits over dial-up, Develcon data switch, and Tymnet.
