Fermilab In One ( temporary documentation ) =============== Fermilab in one is a program that provides easy access to several products such as WORD- and DATA- Processing packages. You will have to order the documentation for the individual products in case you want to learn more about those packages. Fermilab In One does give you the opportunity to take several on line courses. Currently there are: Introduction to VAX commands EDT editor Touch - a typing course 20/20 Spreadsheet Introduction to Datatrieve There is no Online course for Mass11. We do have a Self Study Guide for Mass11. You can enquire at x2202 if you would like to use this Guide. =========================================================================== || ALL VAX USERS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO TAKE THE INTRODUCTION TO || || VAX COMMANDS. || =========================================================================== A few comments about how INONE works. Each of the products will store the files in a separate subdirectory. Mass11 files, for example, will be stored in the [.INONE.MASS11] subdirectory. Because Mass11 will look for the Mass11 directories in the Vax directory you are in while running Mass11 you can see only those Mass11 directories that exist in the [.inone.mass11] directory. You can still use Mass11 in the old manner if you need to get at documents that are unkown to INONE. The same is true for other products. PRINTER DEFAULTS ================ Before using a product you should define the Printer Defaults if you are going to print things out. The first part of the Printer Defaults Menu relates to Mass11 only. Type E if you do not intend to use Mass11. The second part allows you to assign the printer you want to send your output to. You will have to choose your printer each time you enter the INONE program. If your printer is not listed you should contact some one in the User Support Group ( 8th floor east Wilson Hall ) . If you know how to use the EDT or EVE editor you can assign the printer permanently as follows: choose the TEXT editor option from the main menu of INONE and select the LOCAL_SETUP.COM file. Now put the following command in this file: $define my_printer: wh7w_print: ( or your favorite printer ) Mass11 6A ========= Documentation: Mass11 Reference Manual January 1, 1986 Microsystems Engineering Corporation 312-882-0111 ( Hoffman Estates, Il 60195 ) Mass11 under INONE has two sets of Printer tables: MEC tables which are recommended for PROPORTIONAL PRINTING and the Fermilab tables ( default! ) which are to be used for SLAVED PRINTERS or in cases for which the MEC tables are inadequate. The printer numbers for the FermiLab tables are the same as under Mass11 5C, the MEC printer numbers are new. We will slowly convert to the MEC printer numbers. As of today there are several bugs in the MEC software and we are forced to use both sets of printer tables. TEX and LATEX ============= Documentation: The TeXBook - D.E. Knuth Addison-Wesley Publishing Company LaTeX - User's Guide & Reference Manual - L. Lamport Addison-Wesley Publishing Company Using LaTeX at FermiLab ( A local Guide ) Although you can run TEX from INONE we strongly encourage INONE users to stick to LATEX. TEX is for the more advanced user and a menu driven environment is rather limiting for the TEX user. Some examples are available, both for TEX and for LATEX. Selecting the GETTING STARTED option will copy these into your INONE area. The LATEX users may want to take a look at the documents SAMPLE, SMALL and MATH_MACROS. ( The latter file is an example of a macro file and it is used by the - rather complicated - example LATEX_EXAMPLE. We refer to the online local guide for more details. You can print it out as follows: ===> Select the TEX option from the INONE menu ===> Use the PF1 key and down arrow to move to the option Print Current Document ===> Choose for current document: GUIDE This will print the guide out on the Talaris laser printer of your choice. Calendar ======== The public calendar has labwide announcements, the private calendar is for your convenience. You can authorize other users to read and write to your private calendar. Choose the Calendar Utilities option to specify whom. Also in the Calendar Utilities menu you can select someone's private calendar provided you have access to it. Note that you must select your own calendar if you want to return to yours.
