ENGLISH DICTIONARY ------------------ Submitted by: Chris Doran Date: September 1988 Sira Ltd., South Hill, Chislehurst, Kent, BR7 5EH, England. I'm sorry I can't supply a spelling checker to go with this; the one I have isn't mine to give away, and in any case is too slow with the 100000 words you have here. The dictionary was built up by combining all the dictionaries I could find on various SIG tapes, and then checking every word against the Oxford English Dictionary, changing American spellings in the process. It contains a lot of technical terms, plus common Christian names, famous surnames, and countries and large towns, since they're all in the OED. ABBREV.DIC contains common abbreviations and certain surnames (like mine, as I have no famous relatives or ancestors) which are local to Sira, and should be edited for individual site usage. ------- * "English English" is defined (according to the DECmate manuals, anyway) as using -ise endings rather than -ize (which is "British English").
