SPELL reads text files and notifies you of each occurrence of a wrongly spelled word. If it has never seen the word before, it will ask you if it is correctly spelled or not. It will also make a copy of your file with all the changes you have requested, using the same name as the original, but with a higher version number - just like the editor. SPELL - Starts checking a file. You will be prompted for a file name. You can also specify the file name directly on the VMS command line. CHECK - Allows you to check if a word is in the dictionary. UPDATE - Allows system people to update the contents of the main dictionary files. PERSONAL - Allows you list and edit the contents of your personal dictionary. N.B. You should *never* use an editor to alter this file directly!
