Preparation of Track Layout File Each track segment in the layout must be represented by 11 lines in the data file. The first line contains the name of the segment, the speed limit, track length, etc. The 10 next lines contain slow orders. The filename can be anything reasonable but the extenstion MUST be ".DAT". The order of the segments is from east to west. LINE 1. Separate each field with one or more spaces. FIELD 1. The abbreviated name of the segment prefixed with the number representing its position in the file. Format: nnccccc Length: 7 (2 numbers, 5 characters) FIELD 2.Speed limit for freight trains (speed limit for passenger trains is assumed to be 15 miles per hour greater). Format: integer Length: as required (generally 2) FIELD 3. Length of track segment in miles. Format: integer Length: as required FIELD 4. Siding indicator Format: integer "1" if present "0" if not present Length: 1 digit FIELD 5. Double track indicator Format: integer "1" if present "0" if not present Length: 1 digit FIELD 6. Double track siding indicator Format: integer "1" if present "0" if not present Length: 1 digit LINE 2. to LINE 10. FIELD 1. Slow order speed for passenger trains. Format: integer Length: as required FIELD 2. Slow order speed for freight trains. Format: integer Length: as required FIELD 3. Length of track over which the slow order must be observed. If the slow order is for a specific point e.g. a curve, put a zero value in this field. Format: real Length: as required EXAMPLE: Suppose track segment New York were the most easterly in the layout.
