OpenVMS Development uses the following to make limited quantities
of CD ROMS.

Use this information at your own risk.   It was provided by our lab manager.

        Virtual Micro systems has a local contact in Boston.

        cost for the burner is(was as they keep going down in price) 8500.00
        This is for a Sony 900-E recorder and License.
        You will need an infoserver to stage the files on as well as
        disks. rz26's work well.

        The Media needed comes in 63minute and 74minute cd-roms.
        cost is 19.00 for 63- and 24.00 for 74... best results from 63m.

1.  Does Virtual Micro Systems provide software to go with the Sony drive?
    >> Yes, all the software comes with the system.

2.  Does Virtual Micro Systems provide enough documentation to allow a skilled
        system manager to get it set up?
    >> Yes, the system is fairly simple to set up right out of the box.

3.  Is the Infoserver required or can it be done with disks on VMS.

    >>The infoserver software allows you to create disk partitions. This is
      particularly important when it comes time to take the software on the
      disk and put it onto a CD. If you don't partition the disk, when it
      comes time to make the CD. The CD maker software checks out the disk
      to see how much space the on the disk has been partitioned off and them
      calculates the amount of time it will take to put the software onto the
      CD. If the CD software doesn't see any partitions on the disk, it assumes
      the disk is full and copies the whole disk to the CD, even though you may
      only have 100k worth of space on a disk that has 2 million blocks on it.
      So instead of taking ten minutes to burn 100k blocks onto the CD it take
      two and half hours.
