A zip file (MOSAIC2_6-1B.ZIP) is available via anonymous ftp on wvnvms.wvnet.edu in [.MOSAIC]. Once it is unzipped, information on how to build it is in README.VMS-2_6-1. The build requires a C compiler (either DEC C or VAX C) and either UCX or MultiNet. The build can be done with MMS (or Madgoat's MMK) or with the command procedure MAKE_MOSAIC.COM. The anonymous ftp area also contains exe files for both Alpha and VAX which were built using MultiNet and DEC C on OpenVMS 6.1. File README.BUGS in the anonymous ftp area will contain the latest information on any bugs and bug fixes for this release; please check it before reporting problems. This beta release (2.6-1b) has several features from NCSA Mosaic 2.7b2 including the version 6 Jpeg library and the HTML table enable/disable option. Work which still needs to be done includes adding support for in-line PNG images and cleaning up the Mailto: interface. Adding support for SOCKETSHR/NETLIB is also being considered; this would allow Mosaic to work with any of the TCP/IP packages supported by SOCKETSHR/NETLIB. This release is, for the most part, bug for bug compatible with NCSA Mosaic. In particular, the HTML table support works exactly as it does in the official NCSA Mosaic 2.7b2 release. Table support is disabled by default but can be enabled on the fly with the "Table Support" option setting. Please do not report perceived problems with table support to me unless Mosaic is aborting or reporting an error. A mailing-list, VMS-MOSAIC, to help support the use of MOSAIC on VMS has been created by Arne Vajhøj. Its welcome message, which includes information on how to subscribe, is attached below.
