SHELP SHELP is a replacement for the built-in on-line help facility VMS HELP. SHELP provides a much higher level interface to the HELP utility. These improved features are: SCROLLING! SHELP doesn't force you to go to re-read help information if you missed the first few lines. LIBRARIES! SHELP provides assistance in selecting other on-line help libraries, such as those for local services (WKU_HELP) and TeX (DECUS_TEX). There are two ways to utilize SHELP. First, it can be invoked from the command line with a topic or a library (with or without a topic), as shown respectively: |$ SHELP PASCAL |$ SHELP @WKU_HELP SIMTEL Or, it can be invoked without a topic: |$ SHELP Scrolling By using the Prev Screen and Next Screen keys on the terminals, you can scroll through the help file. NOTE: The arrow keys could not be used for scrolling due to the system setup. Your terminal must be capable of at least VT200 capabilities (or provide support for Previous Screen and Next Screen for SHELP to work). Libraries Choosing an alternate library for help is easily done. Pressing the SELECT key will bring up a menu of library choices from which you may select. Type in the name of the library and its contents will be opened and displayed. NOTE: As of this release SHELP does NOT search all libraries installed for a particular topic as HELP does. If you don't get any assistance from SHELP, you may try the WKU_HELP library, especially if you know the help you need is about a local utility. Notes First, SHELP must be run on a VT200-series or better terminal. For further information, see Scrolling. Second, SHELP doesn't check all libraries for help information. For further information, see Libraries.
